Upgrades Worth Making

Not every call is a breakdown. These are the changes that make the biggest difference to a pool that already works.

Variable-speed pumps

Quieter, and a fraction of the running cost of a single-speed pump. Usually the single best upgrade available to an older pool.

Salt chlorine generators

Softer water, less handling of chemicals, and a more consistent chlorine level.

Heat pumps

Extend the Upstate swim season well past September and start it earlier in spring.

LED lighting

Color-changing, programmable, and a fraction of the power of the old fixtures.

Smart automation

Pump schedules, heater, lights, spa and water features from your phone.

On a vinyl pool, lights and fittings are replaced as part of a liner change — so if a liner is due, that's the moment to do the lights.

Signs Your Equipment Needs Attention

The pump is loud, or screeching

Usually bearings or a failing motor. It rarely gets better on its own, and a seized motor can take other things with it.

The pump won't hold prime, or the basket won't fill

An air leak on the suction side, a cracked lid or a worn O-ring — often cheap to fix, and worth fixing quickly because running dry damages the seal.

Filter pressure is higher than normal

The filter needs cleaning, or the media is due for replacement. Left alone, flow drops and the whole pool suffers.

The automation has stopped responding

Controllers, actuators and the connections between them are all serviceable.

A light has gone, or is flickering

Fixtures, gaskets and niches all age. On older pools, it's often the moment to move to LED.

The heater won't fire, or short-cycles

Could be flow, could be a sensor, could be the unit. This one needs diagnosing rather than guessing.

Most of what we find on a repair call would have been caught earlier on a bi-weekly or monthly service plan, where the equipment is checked every visit.

"Kevin and his team are wonderful to work with. Kevin does not cut corners. He builds pools with the highest quality materials and equipment. He treats every customer with kindness and care. I highly recommend Aquarius Pools of the Upstate. We love our new pool!"

"Owner, Kevin Ward mustered the individuals to help create a beautiful pool. A travertine supplier, a great brickie to install the stone, a pool liner specialist, a firm that digs and removed tons of material, electricians, pool equipment plumbing - a complex dance that yielded a happy customer. Heartily recommend Aquarius Pools of the Upstate."

"On the coldest day of 2022 I woke up to find my pool half empty. No one that I usually worked with was available. Aquarius pool was recommended to me and they were here in 30 minutes. They fixed the busted pipe and taught me how to avoid another freeze that night. They were concerned and genuine. Thank you!"

"Amazing!! Can’t recommend highly enough. Quickly returned phone call and came out next day to look at Intellichlor system which we thought might need replacement. This system is new to us and they gave us an education and fixed the problem. The owners, Kevin and Kevin were gracious and so helpful! They will be our “go to” pool guys going forward!"

"Aquarius Pools replaced our liner and we are very happy we chose them! Kevin was very responsive throughout the entire process, answering all if my questions in a very timely manner. They went above and beyond to make sure our pool was working properly, the liner was replaced correctly, and did it all ahead of schedule. Their workmanship is top notch and I would use them again for any pool needs!"

"Excellent customer service and our pool looks great! We got quotes from several companies but ultimately decided to go with Aquarius, even though they were not the cheapest, because they were the most professional from the get-go! Kevin and Kevin both sat down with me and explained the quote and the process. Communication has been super easy and that they have been back to check on my pool several times and make sure that we are happy!"

"Kevin was great to work with. Excellent communication and fair pricing. Great quality work! We have used several pool companies in past years, but we will be sticking with this company from now on!"

"The 2 Kevin’s are Top Notch ! We had a Diving board removed , Fountain installed, New Liner and new vacuum. The pricing was excellent! The work performed was awesome! The communication was amazing! Would definitely recommend and will use them again!"

Pool equipment repair and replacement FAQs

Everything you need to know about pool equipment warranties and repair service. Can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Please chat with our team.
Do you repair equipment you didn't install?
Yes. Most of our repair work is on equipment installed by someone else, and on pools we didn't build. You don't need to have been a customer before.
Do you do warranty repairs?
We carry out warranty repairs on pool equipment we installed.
What warranty comes with new equipment you install?
A three-year manufacturer's warranty on the equipment, and one year on our workmanship.
Should I repair my pump or replace it?
Depends on the age and what's failed. A seal or an impeller on a reasonably new pump is worth repairing. A failing motor on an old single-speed pump usually isn't — replacing it with a variable-speed pump costs more up front and less to run, often enough to pay for itself. We'll give you both numbers.
Can you add automation to an existing pool?
Yes. Automation can be retrofitted to most pools, letting you run the pump, heater, lights, spa and water features from your phone.
What areas do you cover?
Greer, Greenville, Spartanburg and the surrounding Upstate of South Carolina.
